Joe Brutsche, Environmental
Joseph “Joe” Brutsche was announced as the Environmental Programs Manager for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation in June 2022. In this role, he will be responsible for integrating environmental considerations and regulatory requirements into ODOT’s design and construction projects from beginning to end as well as provide compliance service resources for ODOT facilities.
Brutsche began his career with ODOT in 2004, serving as a CADD designer in the Roadway , Traffic Engineering, Right-of-Way and Utilities. He was a project manager in the Environmental Programs prior to being preconstruction manager in Project Management from 2012 to 2021. Brutsche temporarily served as interim manager in Environmental Programs in September 2021 before being named to his current role as manager.
Brutsche is currently a Human Capital Resources Certified Public Manager. He was the lead designer for the US-183 highway widening and realignment project between Clinton and Arapaho in District 5 and spent eight years as a utility coordinator and project manager for multiple projects in District 8, including the I-44 widening from I-244 to Lewis Ave., I-244 multimodal bridge replacement over the Arkansas River and SH-20 widening and realignment from Collinsville to Claremore.
He and his wife, Laura, live in Edmond with their two daughters. Brutsche enjoys hiking, playing volleyball and tennis with friends and family and studying geography and history. Brutsche’s father, Mike, worked in and retired from ODOT’s Planning Division and Environmental Programs, respectively, in 2012.
