Matt Romero, P.E., was named the Materials Division Engineer for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation in September 2018. Romero has worked at ODOT for more than a decade, starting as an Engineer in Training in 2007. He has since been the Assistant Structural Materials Engineer and Structural Materials Engineer, both in the Materials Division in Oklahoma City.

Romero’s new role is to oversee the daily operations and implementing procedures and policies for ODOT’s materials. This program provides guidance to field divisions, central office personnel, consultants and various government entities. 

Graduating from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 2006, Romero has continued to gain experience in engineering. He is a member of Chi Epsilon Engineering Honor Society, a member of AASHTO MATERIALS and Guidelines (formerly AASHTO Committee on Materials and Pavements) and AASHTO Product Evaluation and Audit Solutions (formerly AASHTO National Transportation Product Evaluation program).

Romero has been involved in many big projects with ODOT including the widening of I-40 to six lanes and reconstruction of six bridges between Radio Rd. to Frisco Rd. west of Yukon, and I-40 Crosstown construction projects. He has also worked in the material testing and inspection industry for several civil engineering testing firms in New Mexico, Colorado, Arkansas and Oklahoma.

Romero spends his time riding motorcycles, hunting, fishing and mountain biking. Currently, he resides with his wife, Liz, and two daughters in Yukon.
