Lauren January was named Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s State Traffic Engineer in July 2022. In her new role, January will be responsible for the establishment of traffic engineering policies and related procedures for the department. Those include signing, traffic signals, highway lighting, speed zones, pavement markings, traffic studies and the operation of the Central Sign Shop.
Since 2020, January served as the assistant state traffic engineer and previously worked as the state geometric engineer over geometric design and traffic analytics in the Roadway Design Division from 2015 to 2020. She joined ODOT in 2013 as an intern, professional engineer then manager in the Traffic Engineering Division from 2013 to 2015. She has previous private consulting firm experience.
January holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and has been a Professional Engineer since 2013. She is an active member of the Oklahoma Traffic Engineering Association where she previously served as both president and vice president. She is also currently on the ODOT Engineering Development Council, which helps facilitate the engineers-in-training mentorship program.
