The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT), in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), is proposing to improve State Highway 53 (SH-53) from just west of County Road NS-323 (i.e., Peach Tree Road) extending east approximately 5.57 miles through the I-35 Interchange in Carter County. The existing SH-53 has no shoulders and inadequate sight distance for motorists which contribute to a substantial accident history. The purpose of the project is to bring the facility up to current design standards and thereby improve safety.

ODOT recently tasked a Consultant to study several alternatives to improve SH-53 while taking into consideration construction cost, right-of-way requirements and environmental constraints.
