Description:

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) and Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA) will be making improvements to the Pensacola Dam and the east and west spillway bridges on SH-28over Grand Lake. The improvements in this project will include bridge deck overlays, significant bridge repairs underneath the bridge deck, and new bridge approach guardrail.

The project is currently scheduled to be let for construction in June of 2020, which will necessitate closure of the bridges and the approach roadway onSH-28. While this work will impact travel in the area, the work affecting traffic is scheduled to take place after Labor Day 2020 and end before Memorial Day 2021 to avoid the peak summer season. The construction and related closure will be phased so that all three bridges are not closed at one time. Accommodations will be made for all three bridges to be open to traffic for approximately 10 days for the St. Patrick's Day Run and Big Meat Run in March of 2021. It is anticipated that the road closures will last approximately 9 months, with incentives/disincentives to reduce the closure time. The state highway detour during the bridge closure will be as follows: Eastbound - from Junction of SH-28 and SH-82, proceed south on SH-82 to Junction SH-82/SH-20, then east on SH-20 to Junction SH-20/SH-28 and north on SH-28 approximately 26.8 miles) - see attached map. Once the project is let for construction, information on actual date of closure and duration of closure can be obtained from the ODOT Field Division at 918-838-9933.
