Description
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) is proposing to construct improvements to US-277 from the northbound H.E. Bailey Turnpike off ramp to the US-277 intersection with SH-17 in the city of Elgin in Comanche County. The existing section of roadway of one 12-foot-wide driving lane in each direction. There are multiple businesses adjacent to the roadway with parking lots adjacent to driving lanes. The purpose of the project is to improve traffic flow within the project limits, facilitate left-turn movements, improve drainage, replace aging pavement, and accommodate pedestrain traffic.
The improvements would expand the two-lane roadway to a three-lane roadway consisting of one 12-foot-wide driving lane in each direction and a two-way left turn lane in the center. Additionally, curb and gutter with 4- to 6-foot-wide sidewalks will be constructed along both sides of the roadway where feasible. One driving lane in each direction will be open throughout construction.
