Unrestricted License


A Class D (Unrestricted) Driver License does not have restrictions on the hours you can drive or the passengers you may have in your vehicle. A Class D License is the final stage of the Graduated Driver License (GDL) program.

Driving Privileges


Driving with a Class D Driver License in the State of Oklahoma means you may drive all vehicles or combination of vehicles except A, B, & C without any restrictions on the time of day or the type or number of passengers you can drive (within legal limits).

If you are over 18 years old, you can click here to apply for a Driver License without going through the GDL program.


Eligibility

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

If You Have Taken Driver Education

  • Must have held an Intermediate License or a Farm Permit for at least 180 days
  • Must have no traffic convictions on driving record for 180 days immediately preceding issuance of the unrestricted license

If You Have Not Taken Driver Education

  • Must have held an Intermediate License for at least 1 year
  • Must have no traffic convictions on driving record for 1 year immediately preceding issuance of the unrestricted license

If you are at least 16 1/2 years old

  • Must have held a Farm Permit for at least 6 months
  • Must have had at least 50 hours (10 hours at night) of behind-the-wheel training from a licensed driver at least 21 years old
  • Must have no traffic convictions on driving record for 1 year immediately preceding issuance of the unrestricted license

At Your Visit

Bring the following:

  • Your Intermediate License or Farm Permit
  • Driver Education Completion Certificate (if applicable)
  • Parent, legal guardian, or a notarized Affidavit of Driver Training - only applicable to Farm Permit holders

Get your temporary Unrestricted Driver License

You will be given a temporary unrestricted license to use until you receive your license in the mail.

4-year credential

  • Replacement of Intermediate License: $25.00
  • REAL ID Credential: $25.00

Note

These fees apply when graduating from an Intermediate License to an Unrestricted. If you are 18 or older and have never held any Oklahoma License, please visit our New Driver 18+ page for additional fees.

Are You REAL ID Ready?

Beginning May 7, 2025, a REAL ID compliant Driver License or ID card, or a valid federal identification document (i.e. U.S. Passport) will be required for you to fly within the U.S. or visit a federal facility.
