Public Use Data Files (PUDF) – Inpatient, Hospital-based Outpatient Surgery, Free-Standing Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), and Emergency Room Discharge Data
Under the provisions of the Health Care Information Statutes (63 O.S. (Supp. 1994) § 1-115 et seq.), the Division prepares and makes available a public use file for the four datasets; Inpatient, Hospital-based Outpatient Surgery, ASC, and Emergency Room Discharge Data. The public files contain patient level data but considerable efforts are taken to ensure that individual patients are not identified in the PUDF. Public files are designed to provide public health personnel, purchasers, payers, providers, consumers, and researchers useful information to make informed decisions. Please refer to the following data dictionaries for a list of the fields and associated descriptions. Instructions for ordering the public file are available on the data:
OK2SHARE
OK2SHARE is a user-friendly data query system that provides users access to information related to hospitals stays. Information is available on the number of discharges, charges, length of stay, common diagnoses and the diagnosis related groups (DRGs). Inpatient discharge data is available from 2002 through the most recently submitted and processed data year. Outpatient and ASC surgery data is available from 2006 through the most recently submitted and processed data year.
Health Care Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP)
Oklahoma has participated in the Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research (AHRQ) sponsored Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) since the 2005 data year. HCUP data is a powerful resource for national and state health care statistics.
HCUPnet is a free, on-line query system based on data from the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP).
Quality Indicators
Using Hospital Inpatient discharge data, AHRQ has developed a set of Quality Indicators (QIs) that measure a range of health care quality issues. The QIs are arranged in four modules:
- Inpatient Quality Indicators (IQIs) reflect quality of care inside hospitals including inpatient mortality for medical conditions and surgical procedures.
- Patient Safety Indicators (PSIs) reflect the quality of care inside hospitals, focusing on avoidable complications and iatrogenic events.
- Prevention Quality Indicators (PQIs) identify admissions that evidence suggests could have been avoided, at least partially, through high-quality outpatient care.
- Pediatric Quality Indicators reflect quality of care inside hospitals and identify potentially avoidable hospitalizations among children.
Patient Origin Reports
Patient origin reports include facility discharges by zip code of the patient. These reports are available upon request.
Individual Facility Utilization and Service Reports
These reports are confidential and available only to the submitting facilities. The reports compare the patient demographics, top patient conditions and procedures for each facility with its peers and the State.
