Audiologists
As an audiologist, you are an essential part of the child’s care team and a key part of Oklahoma Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EDHI). Oklahoma EHDI strives to follow The Joint Committee on Infant Hearing (JCIH) recommended timeline of hearing screening by 1 month, diagnostic evaluation by 3 months if needed, and intervention by 6 months if needed.
It takes a dedicated team to help families through the EHDI process. A key part of helping families through this process is timely reporting of diagnostic results for children 0-3 years of age. These results are used by Oklahoma EHDI staff to assist families through the diagnosis and provide resources as needed.
Even beyond the newborn hearing screening and the initial diagnosis, reporting results for children up to 3 years of age is important. Submitted data is used to assist families in obtaining intervention services, parent-to parent support, and other resources as indicate. Additionally, deidentified data is submitted to the Center for Disease Control to monitor the incidence and prevalence of congenital hearing loss, late onset hearing loss, and screening rates.
Thank you for helping the efforts to care for Oklahoma’s children!
