Oklahoma State Art Collection

A collection of works by notable Oklahoma artists, the State Art Collection was established in 1971 as a visual anthology of the history of artistic expression in Oklahoma. The Oklahoma Arts Council manages and cultivates the collection by continuing to acquire donated works. Select works from the collection are exhibited in the Betty Price Gallery at the Oklahoma State Capitol. In 2006, state leaders approved the creation of the gallery in the Capitol to showcase the collection. The museum-quality space, which opened November 16, 2007, is the realization of the founding members' vision for a permanent facility for the remarkable collection.

Curated and managed by the Oklahoma Arts Council, the State Art Collection contains works created by artists with Oklahoma connections. The works encompass the period from statehood to present day and include ceramics, paintings, photography, printmaking, sculptures and fiber art, among others. Exhibitions of works from the collection are displayed in the Betty Price Gallery located on the second floor of the Oklahoma State Capitol.

In conjunction with the Collection's establishment in 1971, the State Art Collection Committee was founded to review and approve all proposals for new acquisitions into the Collection. Comprised of leading art authorities from various regions of the state, the Committee shares the commitment of the Collection's mission, which is to acquire and preserve a Collection that reflects the most important aesthetic achievements of the visual arts by artists who have a connection to our state.

Donated Artwork
