Eligibility

Employers that have been in business for more than a year with less than 250 employees at a fixed worksite and less than 500 employees nationwide are eligible to apply for the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP). When the process begins, employers must agree to some requirements, including the following:

  • Request a SHARP full service safety and health consultation
  • Receive a comprehensive safety and health consultation conducted by the Oklahoma Consultation Services – Safety Saves safety and health consultants
  • Correct all identified safety and health hazards
  • Involve employees in the development, implementation, and operation of all elements necessary for effective safety and health program;
  • Reduce Total Recordable Cases (TRC) and Days Away Restricted Time(DART) to below the national average for their industry NAICS code
  • Complete a safety and health assessment with no major deficiencies

Agree to request additional consultative visits if major changes in the workplace conditions or processes introduce new hazards

Application, Approval and Inspection Exemption

A request to pursue SHARP may be made by phone, during a consultation, or by email. SHARP candidates must have a Total Recordable Case (TRC) and Days Away, Restricted, and Transfer (DART) rate below the national BLS industry average for their North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code. SHARP eligibility is also based on the results a comprehensive safety and health consultation. SHARP approvals are granted in 1-2 year increments. To continue in the program, employers must apply for renewal during the last quarter of the approval year.
