Speakers
Colby Takeda is the co-founder and CEO of Pear Suite, where he oversees operations, business development, and strategic partnerships. Colby brings his diverse background in public health, aging, and digital health to support Pear Suite’s focus on addressing the social and environmental drivers of health, especially for older adults and underserved communities. Colby is a former senior living administrator and helped open numerous facilities caring for hundreds of older adults. He most recently led policy and partnerships for the Blue Zones Project by Sharecare, and it was through his commitment to addressing health inequities and improving independence that he decided to launch Pear Suite.
Colby serves on the board of directors for the CTA Foundation, Kaho’omiki, Better Business Bureau of the Great West and Pacific, and the National Association of Community Health Workers. He completed his undergraduate studies at Willamette University and furthered his education by earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, Shidler College of Business and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health.
Dianca Finch obtained her B.S. degree in Biology from Langston University. Immediately after obtaining her undergraduate degree, Dianca attended the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and pursued a Doctor of Philosophy degree (Ph.D.) in Neuroscience. Dianca continued Neuroscience research studies at Georgetown University in Washington DC, working 2 years as Postdoctoral Research Fellow on Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases. For 7 years, Dianca worked at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Office (TTIPO) managing portfolios for the transfer of research materials, data, and information related to infectious diseases (HIV, Tuberculosis, Malaria, Ebola, COVID-19, Monkeypox, Lassa Fever Virus, and Nipah), between other government agencies, external partners, and non-profits on behalf of the NIH Vaccine Research Center and Vaccine Production Plant. While at NIH, Dianca served on NIAID’s DEIA council (advisory to Dr. Fauci) and obtained a DEIA certificate from Cornell University.
Dianca serves as a Lieutenant Commander (Scientist Category) in the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps under the Surgeon General where she has deployed for the COVID-19 Public Health Response, unaccompanied minors crossing the border and served as Watch Officer within the HHS Secretary’s Operation Center. In March of 2023, Dianca accepted a position with the CDC as a Public Health Advisor assigned within OSDH Immunization Service.
A native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Dr. Christopher “Chris” Harris is a 2006 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. He attended Jackson State University (Jackson, MS), where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. In 2010, Dr. Harris returned to Oklahoma to attend the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC), earning a Master of Public Health degree in health administration and policy. In 2018, he received his M.D. from OUHSC, where he also completed his residency in 2021. In July 2022, he completed a fellowship at the University of Illinois College of Medicine-Peoria where he focused on obstetrics and women's health. As a result, Dr. Harris is Oklahoma’s only African American fellowship-trained family medicine and obstetrics (FM-OB) provider.
Currently, Dr. Harris is the Owner and Physician of Nexus Family and Maternity Care in Oklahoma City where they are “Connecting the world through wellness.”
He and his wife, Amreen Alisha Harris, have two children—Inayaah and Carter. When he is not at work, Dr. Harris enjoys golfing, fishing, cooking, and playing with his dogs!
Dr. Mire is a private practice internal medicine physician in Nashville, TN and President Emeritus for the American College of Physicians (ACP) from 2022 - 2023. He is a past-President of Heritage Medical Associates (a large, multi-specialty independent practice) composed of over a hundred physicians. He received his undergraduate degree from Rhodes College, graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, and completed his residency at the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University, where he served as Chief Resident.
He is a recipient of ACP awards nationally and locally. Dr. Mire is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medical Education for the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and Vice President of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine Alumni, Council. In April of 2023, ACP named its summer internship program the Ryan Mire, MD Summer Internship Program due to his passionate commitment for mentorship and advancing health equity.
Dr. Drummond is the CEO and Founder of TheHappyMD.com where the website receives 25,000 website visitors a month and hosts an online community of over 18,000 physicians from 63 countries around the world.
Dr. Drummond has over 3000 hours of one-on-one physician coaching experience and has trained over 40,000 doctors on behalf of 175 corporate clients to date. His comprehensive experience with individual doctors in all specialties and healthcare organizations of all sizes has lead him to create the ground breaking resources listed below.
Founder and CEO of Lean In LLC, Dr. Jabraan Pasha is a practicing physician and educator. He received his undergraduate and medical degree from the University of Kansas, and his internal medicine residency training at Mayo Clinic Arizona. He most recently served as assistant dean of student affairs and associate professor of medicine at the University of Oklahoma School of Community Medicine. He previously served as national vice president for Juno Medical, and medical director for Juno Medical’s healthcare center in the Historic Greenwood district in Tulsa, OK.
During the pandemic, Jabraan advocated for the health of his community on several, national news outlets such as CNN, MSNBC and NBC. He serves on many local, regional, and national boards and committees, including his role as president of the Tulsa American Heart Association, vice chair of the Telligen Community Initiative, and vice chair of the American College of Physicians Membership Committee. He has presented 150+ times nationally and internationally. Jabraan is a 2022 Aspen Health Communities fellow, and this April, the American College of Physicians awarded him the W. Lester Henry Award.
Neurosurgeon, bestselling author, philanthropist, and former NFL player Dr. Myron Rolle is a medical pioneer in preventing traumatic brain injury and has made profound improvements to neurosurgical care in the Caribbean. Dr. Rolle is a Rhodes Scholar and a chief neurosurgery resident and Global Neurosurgery Fellow at Harvard-Massachusetts General Hospital.
He developed and published the Rolle Scoring System, a public health rating scale used to determine a developing country’s governance around helmet safety to prevent traumatic brain injury. Dr. Rolle has been recognized by the Congress of Neurological Surgeons for demonstrating the best operative technique in the reconstruction of upper extremity motor function using intercostal nerve transfers after a traumatic brachial plexus injury.
Dr. Rolle is the chairman of the Caribbean Neurosurgery Foundation – a not-for-profit which houses capacity-building and health system-strengthening initiatives for improved neurosurgical care in the Caribbean. His foundation has impacted over 3.5M people in the Caribbean through the upscaling of policy, service delivery, infrastructure, and workforce development. Dr. Rolle also serves as the youngest ever board director at Abiomed – a leading provider of groundbreaking medical technology that provides circulatory and oxygenation support for the most at-risk cardiac patients.
Erin Martin’s passion for helping others started at fifteen when she started working with older adults. Today, Erin holds a master’s degree in Gerontology from the University of Southern California, the first and #1 Gerontology school in the world and has worked in all levels of long-term care.
In 2021, Erin founded FreshRx Oklahoma, a produce prescription program partnering with primary care clinics while sourcing from local, regenerative farmers to produce measurable health outcomes and savings for the state of Oklahoma. She is certified in Regenerative Soil Advocacy and is passionate about the link between soil health and human health. Erin is the President of the Tulsa Urban Ag Coalition, the Director of FreshRx Oklahoma, and the co-lead of Oklahoma’s Food is Medicine Policy Coalition.
Jeremy Colbert is a seasoned health professional with 12 years of experience, having served eight years as a general manager/certified personal trainer for a locally owned exercise facility. In this role, he developed essential health knowledge and cultivated an educated outlook on human health outcomes. This position also allowed him to initiate relationships and network with local people, leaders, and business owners.
For the subsequent two years, Jeremy worked as a Wellness Coordinator for the Muskogee County Health Department, focusing on implementing the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Grant (Tset). His unwavering commitment was directed towards reducing Oklahoma's leading causes of preventable death, specifically targeting cancer and cardiovascular disease. Through partnerships with local schools, organizations, farmers markets, and community-based entities, Jeremy aimed to create healthier environments for Oklahomans to live, work, learn, and play.
Jeremy has become a Health Equity Specialist in the last two years, leading the District 7 Community Health Worker program. He has been a driving force in identifying, working with, and engaging community organizations and leaders to address public disparities, including racial and ethnic minority populations and rural communities.
Jeremy has also played a pivotal role in linking community members to resources addressing social determinants of health across Muskogee, Adair, Cherokee, McIntosh, Haskell, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, and Sequoyah counties. Additionally, he has developed health disparity education materials, ensuring equitable and accessible information on public health and services specifically tailored to support rural, high-risk, and underserved populations. Jeremy's comprehensive approach aims to enhance overall well-being and bridge information gaps within the communities he serves. His history has proven his commitment to upholding the health department's vision of “Leading Oklahoma to prosperity through health.”
In his free time, Jeremy enjoys spending time with his family, whether at church or participating in various sports activities. He also enjoys chasing wild hogs with his dogs. An avid traveler, he is always eager for new adventures and experiences.
John Bobb-Semple is a changemaker who lives to build bridges, innovate, and inspire impact. He serves as executive director of Pottawatomie Go or as their friends say Pogo. Launched following the successful implementation of the Blue Zones Project in 2020, Pogo is a community led initiative committed to helping make healthy choices easier in the place we love.
Prior to coming to Shawnee, John served as the Senior Director of Community Impact at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
John is a native of New Orleans and calls Shawnee home with his wife and weekend adventure partner, Trisha, and their golden doodle Ruby. In his spare time, you can find him gardening, cheering on the OKC Thunder and his beloved New Orleans Saints…“WhoDat” yall!
District 9 Health Planning Manager, Oklahoma State Department of Health
Lesa Curry grew up in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas and moved to rural Southeast Oklahoma in 2003 and began a career in public health in June of 2004. She currently resides in Durant, Oklahoma, and serves as the Health Planning Manager in District 9 for the Oklahoma State Department of Health. Lesa wrote the framework for the Rural Health Initiative in McCurtain County, Oklahoma. The county specific model was piloted in December of 2020 to leverage community resources and achieve coordinated and holistic health and healthcare services throughout McCurtain County. The effort embedded community health workers within the rural health system to connect patients with providers, services, and programs.
Lesa understands social drivers play a pivotal role in a person's susceptibility to illnesses, access to health care and the effectiveness of medical treatments. She ensured collaboration with community stakeholders and partners to coordinate efforts of addressing health disparities throughout southeast Oklahoma, primarily focusing on inequity hotspots throughout the region by helping organizations understand, create, and implement effective methods for addressing all factors influencing health and well-being.
Lesa has a heart for public health and a passion for serving all Oklahomans.
Nayedhli Gutiérrez is a passionate Health Equity Fellow working to provide equitable health and life outcomes for Oklahomans who experience marginalization. Nayedhli received her bachelors degree in Psychology from Oklahoma State University in 2017. She later pursued her masters degree from the university of Oklahoma and graduated with a Masters in Social Work in 2020. Nayedhli is a licensed master social worker in the state of Oklahoma.
She joined the Office of Minority Health and Health equity as a Spanish interpreter/translator in January of 2022. As a Spanish medical interpreter/translator for the team she was able to assist in the removal of language barriers for the Hispanic community through virtual interpretation along with the translation of health educational materials distributed across the state.
In December of 2022, she seized the opportunity to transition into the role of a Health Equity Fellow. As a Health Equity Fellow she has participated in the development of various trainings, led monthly Community of Practice meetings, provided technical assistance to OMHHE’s external grantees, and continues working to address health disparities that affect communities across the state of Oklahoma.
With her social work and medical interpretation backgrounds, she brings a unique lens to the Office of Minority Health. With the desire to improve the outcomes of our fellow Oklahomans, Nayedhli continues to diligently work towards identifying and removing barriers to achieve those intended outcomes.
In her free time, Nayedhli enjoys hiking & camping, roller skating, spending time with her family, and playing with her cats and dogs.
Dr. Rodger L.B. Cutler, a native of St. Louis, Missouri, is a seasoned pastor and community leader with a rich history of service and dedication. He graduated from Oral Roberts University with a degree in Theology, specializing in Local Church Pastoring. During his time at ORU, Dr. Cutler served as President of the Souls A’ Fire Evangelistic Ministries, leading the gospel choir on nationwide tours and international performances in Tokyo, Japan.
In 2003, he answered the call to ministry and became the youngest pastor at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. His journey took him to Abidjan, Africa, in 2009, where he preached alongside other ministers and witnessed a profound spiritual awakening.
In 2009, Dr. Cutler founded the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church (Now Real-Life Church) in Claremore, Oklahoma, fostering unity through town hall meetings and community engagement initiatives. His passion for empowering Muskogee socially, economically, and educationally led him to serve as pastor of St. Mark Baptist Church in 2011.
Beyond his pastoral duties, Dr. Cutler has been deeply involved in civic and community organizations, including the Muskogee Christian Ministers Alliance and the Muskogee NAACP, where he served as President. He also played pivotal roles in the Muskogee Medical Center Authority and the Muskogee Board of Adjustment.
Dr. Cutler's commitment to youth development is evident through his founding of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Committee, which sponsors annual oratorical contests and scholarships for young people. His dedication to public health led him to join the Oklahoma State Department of Health in 2021, where he currently serves as Community Engagement and Health Planning Manager for OSDH District 7.
As a respected community leader, Dr. Cutler brings a wealth of experience in health equity, program development, and community outreach. His mantra, "I believe that the greatest expression of our humanity is to serve others." underscores his unwavering dedication to serving others and building sustainable communities.
Robert Diaz was born and raised in Oklahoma City, and has attended his higher education at the University of Central Oklahoma where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications with an emphasis of Broadcast Journalism. While in school and proceeding graduation, Robert worked at multiple local news stations. He ultimately landed at FOX 25, where he was an on-air personality for the daytime show Living Oklahoma and worked in the sales department.
He chose to move on from the broadcasting world and had the opportunity to travel across the country doing Audio/Visual installations. In the height of 2020’s COVID-19 Pandemic, Robert began working with the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission, where he was able to provide a glimpse of light to Oklahomans who were forced to turn to unemployment due to the global pandemic. He was able to assist unemployed community members in receiving financial relief and reemployment opportunities at a time when unemployment was at a record high. It was during this time that he discovered his passion to help others and make a difference in the community.
In 2022, Robert found a new opportunity at the Oklahoma State Department of Health working in the Office of Minority Health & Health Equity. It was there he took on the title as a Spanish Interpreter/Translator and has had the privilege to provide services to those that have language barriers in the Hispanic community. In his time with the department, he has translated various pieces of educational information for the public, provided virtual interpretations, and has been a part of a several community out-reach events across the state. He has even been able to go back to his broadcasting roots and record a radio Public Service Announcement for the Communications Department. Robert has taken pride in working alongside his teammates to achieve the goal of making Oklahoma more inclusive to the Spanish speaking community.
When he is not at work helping the community, Robert enjoys spending time with his wife, Andrea, one year old son, Elijah, and their dog, Phoebe. You may also find him cruising around the city on his motorcycle, or at an OU football game or watching the OKC Thunder play.
Sara King serves the Department of Health Promotion Sciences at the Hudson College of Public Health as Lecturer and Associate Director of the Bachelor of Public Health program. Prior to joining the University, Sara held several positions within the Oklahoma State Department of Health, primarily focused on local, county public health promotion.
Her favorite professional accomplishment so far has been funding, planning, and implementing a pilot doula program for pregnant women experiencing high maternal stress while her highest professional honor was working alongside (the original) District 6 county health department team during the COVID-19 pandemic response. Nowadays, you can find Sara teaching undergraduate students going through OU's Public and Community Health program or at home with her family, including the best partner, best baby, and best dogs you could ever hope for.
