Office of Nursing Service

The office of Nursing Service, within the division of Community and Family Health, is responsible for the support of Oklahoma's public health nurses by providing clinical practice physician approved protocols, continuing education and training opportunities, performance improvement activities, and professional development.NS-Vaccine.gif

Public health nurses comprise the largest segment of Oklahoma's public health workforce with over 500 registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and advanced practice nurses. Our nurses, located in local county health departments, provide a variety of direct clinical services such as administering vaccinations, treatment and investigation of reportable communicable disease, family planning services, breast and cervical cancer screening, and home visitation for first-time mothers. Public health nurses also provide population-based services that strive to improve the health status of their communities.  These services include disaster preparedness and response, disease outbreak investigation, health fair activities, presentations on healthy lifestyle behaviors for schools and community groups, participating in community coalitions, and accreditation activities.
