Genetics Program

GS-pic_fh-gen.jpgThe genetics program is a collaborative program that provides an infrastructure to engage stakeholders to collectively improve the health and lives of individuals and families with or at risk for genetic, congenital (a condition someone is born with) and/or familial conditions.  Effective public health strategies will ensure access to quality and timely genetic information, screening, education, and family-centered comprehensive services.  The program promotes effective integration of family history, screening, and clinical genetic services into the health care delivery system.  Through education, systems development, assessment and policy development, the program continues to improve genetic services statewide.

The Oklahoma Genetics Advisory Council and the State Genetics Plan guide the program.  At a regional level, the program participates with the Heartland Regional Genetics and Newborn Screening Collaborative. The Collaborative is made up of members from Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota.
